Did You Know?
A Homestead Grant for 144 acres was awarded to Thomas Mann and his sons in 1891. On the north end of Longboat Key homes were built in the early 1900s. Around 1920s John Ringling bought hundreds of acres on the south end of the island where he planted Australian Pine Trees along Ringling Boulevard. During WWII, the island was sparsely inhabited. Longboat Key was incorporated on November 14, 1955 and the island was actively developed in 1960’s and 70s.
